What is Brain Mapping?
Brain mapping is completely painless.
Quantitative EEG brain mapping (QEEG) or
quantitative electroencephalogram is a well researched diagnostic
procedure that can actually pinpoint the abnormal brainwaves in ADD/ADHD,
Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Depression,
and substance abuse.
Our physicians gently place electrodes on the scalp
and then record data on brain wave activity. This establishes a record.
This record of a patient’s specific patterns
is then put into an extensive normative database that compares their
patterns with the norm. It is through this process and the ensuing
analytical interpretation that we see how the patient’s brain
site functioning differs from that norm.
In many cases these variations are at the
seat of behavioral malfunctions that can be significantly improved
or corrected. Simply changing biochemical imbalances with drugs is
just a temporary stopgap that often has serious side effects, while
the benefits are fleeting.

Because of different subtypes of
ADD, a QEEG is important in complex cases or patients or with comorbidities
such as:
• anxiety
• depression
• high functioning Autism
• obsessive compulsive disorder
• tics
• overly aggressive or explosive behavior
• oppositional-defiant disorder
The QEEG can identify the specific
abnormal brainwave pattern. From this information we can develop a specific
Neurofeedback protocol to help normalize brain functioning for that
patient.
