What Happens At Drake?
Have you ever heard of a doctor’s office
where instead of shots and medicine, there were video games that made
you feel better? Believe it or not, that’s what happens at the
Drake. And, nothing here hurts! When you come to the Drake, you will
have the chance to play video games using your brain. These video games
have helped lots of kids to have an easier time at school and with their
friends and family.
Here’s how it works: You will
get to choose a video game to play. We have games with race cars, stars,
spaceships, balloons, and rivers. You will also get to choose from lots
of different sounds that tell you when you get a point in the game.
The trainer will put small sensors on your ears and head. These sensors
don’t hurt at all; they read your brainwaves so that you can see
them on the screen. Next, you will learn about how to control the screen
using your brain! If you try your best, you will get to sign our Honor
Board and pick a prize. Pretty soon, your brain will be stronger and
the things that seemed really hard before will be easier for you to
do.
So Why Do Kids Come to Drake?
There are lots of reasons why kids come to the
Drake Institute but the biggest reason is to make you feel better and
make things easier for you.
Some kids that first come to Drake say:
- “Homework is REALLY
hard!”
- “It’s hard
to sit still in class!”
- “I don’t want
to take these pills anymore”
- “It’s too hard
to concentrate.”
- “Sometimes I do things
I don’t mean to do.”
When you get hurt or sick,
you go to the doctor, right? The Drake is like a doctor’s office
that helps you with problems that can’t be seen on the outside.
You will meet people that are specially trained to work with kids and
know a lot about problems kids sometimes have. They will help you to
learn about brainwaves and teach you all about the video games. You
will be on your way to the Honor Board in no time!
