Self Worth - ADD Forms During Childhood

Academic achievement is the foundation and pathway to getting what we want in life. Unfortunately, low academic achievement during our early years - like getting poor grades - is often something we hold against ourselves. When our self-esteem or self-worth takes a beating, the damage can remain with us for the rest of our lives.

Low self-worth can lead to future problems in interpersonal relationships at home or work. Then we tend to take the inevitable failures all too personally. This can result in our falling deeper into a personal pattern of pain and humiliation.

At Drake, we see this pattern expressing itself with our adult patients and we work with them to counteract it. We often see drug problems, relationship difficulties, and work failure. In essence, their lives are very difficult to repair.

Rescue during childhood is the best time to change this pattern and develop a new history of personal achievement that patients will live with for a lifetime. We help create a new world of positive regard instead of the painful one they are now living in. Many times, we at Drake glow with pride at how our patients have turned their lives around and now their futures are wide open. Our walls at each Drake Clinic are covered with evidence of the achievements and rewards our patients are now experiencing.
