Community Outreach
The Drake Institute has been invited to share our expertise of our highly sought after BrainMapping and Neurofeedback treatment with area educators, therapists and parent support groups.
In addition to providing evaluations, diagnoses and FullCare © Treatment to families in need of specialized help, the Drake Institute’s mission is to make ourselves available to families and our fellow professionals as a Community Resource. As parents and professionals, we all have the same mission which is to have each and every person reach their full potential; to be as "good as they can be" and to live a fulfilling life. Although we are a medical clinic and can prescribe medication for the treatment of ADD/ADHD, we recommend drugs only as a last resort.
We believe by all working together in our communities and sharing information, we can provide our families with the best care and HOPE.
CHADD Event
On November 12 – 15 , Drake took part during the 20th Annual International Conference for CHADD in Anaheim, CA. Drake was invited to take part in this event in order to share our FDA approved Brainmapping and FullCare © treatment program with CHADD families – both children and adults. Additionally, this conference will give other professionals participating, the opportunity to learn more about Drake’s mission which is to help all families in need without the use of medication whenever possible.
The goal of the conference is for all attendees to become aware of all choices available for the treatment of children and adults with ADD/ADHD other than / or in addition to medication. This conference will assist families in understanding how the science of Brainmapping and Neurofeedback can help families overcome the symptoms of ADD/ADHD while continuing to work with pharmaceutical science.
At this conference Drake will reinforce the importance of Brainmapping being done by a qualified clinical professional prior to beginning Neurofeedback. Brainmapping measures brain wave activity in the brain; the brainmap shows which areas of the brain are in need of training or retraining. Brainmapping is a most important first step in the treatment of many disorders. When looking for treatment clinics, people should investigate closely and find someone who has a medical background, great experience, a very successful track record and provides FullCare © for families.
For more information on this conference, please go to the CHADD website at www.CHADD.org.
On November 6th, Drake was invited by the Long Beach – South Bay Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (LB – SB CAMFT) to take part in a workshop for parents to learn more about the treatment of ADHD, PDD and Autism Spectrum Disorders with Brainmapping and Neurofeedback.
On October 24th and 25th, The Drake Institute exhibited at the Association of Educational Therapists (AET). We were invited to this conference to present Drake’s FullCare © Treatment programs to Therapists who work with families in need of help.
It was a pleasure to meet an organization of professionals that were so genuinely committed to their patients, and so uniquely compassionate and caring. While at the conference we spoke to many amazing therapists who have really made an impact on a lot of children and adults suffering with myriad disorders. It was an honor for us to learn that many of the therapists had already had positive interactions with The Drake Institute through patients that had improved significantly.
The Drake Institute FullCare program advocates a teamwork approach to helping patients that relies on the active involvement of Parents, Teachers, Therapists and Doctors. It is through the work of caring professionals such as those members of AET that neurologic disorders can be managed.
On September 30th David Velkoff, MD, presented to a chapter of CHADD – a support group for families with children / adults with ADD/ADHD. Dr. Velkoff is the Medical Director of the Drake institute. CHADD invited Drake to speak with families concerning choices they have in the treatment of their children other than / or in addition to medication.
The content of the presentation was varied as was requested by the attendees. CHADD was seeking information on how the science of Brainmapping and Neurofeedback can help families overcome the symptoms of ADHD while continuing to work with pharmaceutical science. It is very important to note that the Drake Institute is not anti drug but prefers non drug treatment approach whenever possible.
Dr. Velkoff reviewed the importance of Brainmapping being done by a clinical professional prior to beginning Neurofeedback. Brainmapping measures brain wave activity in the brain; the brainmap shows which areas of the brain are in need of training or retraining. The analogy Dr. Velkoff gave was – you would not take antibiotics for a sore throat until you had a throat culture to help identity the problem.
The great importance of having highly qualified professionals working with families in order to get the full benefit of treatment was discussed. When looking for treatment clinics, people should investigate closely for someone who has a medical background, great experience, a very successful track record and provides Full Care for families.
We also have several scheduled presentations followed by a private consultation at three of our area clinics. There is no charge for this service and we welcome you to call 1-866-606-4233 to speak with one of our clinicians who can assist you.
