The incidence of a patient having
both ADD/ADHD and an auditory / language disorder is between 30% and
40%. This is why we screen for these additional problems thoroughly
at the time of the intake and thereafter. Full recovery from the difficulties
facing a child or adult with these patterns cannot be achieved until
all problems are sufficiently treated. At the Drake Institute it is
our policy, for the sake of the fullest objectivity, to have a qualified
and licensed professional do the testing both before and after treatment
when indicated.
In our experience we have found that the therapy
programs that address these Auditory / Language disorders require,
for best results, a highly receptive brain. According to reports by
an independent language and speech therapist, patients that have been
through our neurotherapy program have been doing remarkably well.
In fact, the neurotherapy provides a strong base for the Auditory/Language
treatment. We monitor our patients to ensure that those standards
of receptivity are maintained. Only when our patients have reached
these neurological standards does treatment begin. We do this so that
our patients can achieve the greatest benefit from this form of care
and that their success continues them on their new road, which will
be paved with achievement. The development of confidence will only
increase as our patients use their newly acquired skills and behaviors.
Frequently self worth has been negatively affected by these disorders
and rebuilding self worth is an important part of recovery.
We have assembled a thorough informational paper
about these disorders in addition to the “Our Approach”
comments above. It is part of this hand out. If we suspect that the
Auditory / Language therapy may be necessary for success, we will
provide you with additional information to familiarize you with the
details of the treatment(s).
