Treatment for Auditory Processing
Disorders
The Fast ForWord program is based on the idea
that the brain changes as we learn new skills, a trait known as “brain
plasticity” or “neuroplasticity”. Research has show
that specific adaptive training techniques allow for more rapid learning.
This knowledge and further research culminated in the training program
can improve critical language skills for improved communication, for
learning to read, and becoming a better reader.
Work with children with language
difficulties lead scientists to believe that the problem was difficulty
in the speed of processing; Isolating fast acoustic changes within speech
sounds elude many children and adults with processing difficulties.
Through the help of computers, speech sounds can be altered, reproduced
and eventually differentiated by the child. Using this technology in
an intensive, adaptive training program, individuals can develop a wide
range of critical language skills.
